In a letter sent on Tuesday, CM Conrad stated that Niksamseng Ch Marak was arrested by Assam police on July 2. According to family members, he was found dead two days later (July 4, 2024) in the rehab centre, bearing severe injury marks including a deep knife cut on the left side of his face, burns, and severe injuries on the chin, hips, and legs.
Conrad further informed that the family alleges the rehab centre, named “New Life Foundation Centre, Nayapara, Goalpara,” claimed it was a suicide.
He emphasized that these injuries indicate Niksamseng was subjected to brutal torture, beatings, and stabbing inside the facility.
“I request you to immediately investigate the incident, as desired by the family, to ensure justice. The family has filed an FIR regarding the incident, and your prompt intervention in constituting an inquiry will be greatly appreciated,” Conrad stated in the letter.
