Tura, Nov 28: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday declared Chigitchakgre village under Gambegre C&RD block in West Garo Hills as “Bee Village”.
He said that the village will be given all necessary support to bottle honey, display its product and create other infrastructure to promote the village as “bee village” to attract tourists.
He said that under Apiculture Mission 2.0, the Government is promoting production and processing of honey. He said that declaring the village as bee village will further enable people and tourists to visit the village, which will open vistas for many other ventures.
He announced Rs 10 lakh assistance from CMSDF to the village to further leverage honey production in the village.
He also urged the people to take advantage of CM – Elevate, the flagship scheme of the Government to start their own business entity.
Gambegre MDC Rakesh A Sangma and Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani also attended the programme.
CM also interacted with the villagers during the programme.
