Shillong, Dec 24: To celebrate Meghalaya’s 50 years of statehood, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has officially sent an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be the Chief Guest of the celebrations next year.
Meghalaya was carved out of Assam as an autonomous state in April 1970 and was declared a full-fledged state in January 1972 with a Legislative Assembly of its own.
Informing the media personnel on Thursday, Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong said, “An official invitation has been sent and an official confirmation has not been received yet… the State Government is waiting for the offical confirmation from the PM’s Office.”
“The Prime Minister will inaugurate and also lay few foundation stones for different projects in the State”, futher informed the Dy CM.
Notably, the Model College in Rongjeng in East Garo Hills, new building of St Andrew’s Secondary School Block at Reking in North Garo Hills are some of the projects expected to be inaugurated on the Statehood day next year.
Also, Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma on November 18, 2021 unveiled the logo of Meghalaya’s 50 years Celebration at the Me’Gong Festival to mark the State’s 50th Statehood year in 2022.
