Shillong, Aug 29: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has informed that 36 applications have been received for scientific coal mining in the State, out of which 4 received previous approval for mining lease, 13 received previous approval for prospecting license, 16 not yet received approval for prospecting license, and 3 have been withdrawn.
In a reply tabled in the Assembly on Thursday, Sangma said 4 applicants have submitted their mining plans and the matter is under process.
He said that the minimum area for obtaining prospecting license as per norm’s set by Government of India is 100 hectares.
Further, the CM said that rat hole mining cannot be considered as scientific mining.
