Conrad says NESAC yet to be optimally utilized for the region’s interest

Shillong, April 17: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday said it will be great to have a centre of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in Meghalaya, however the state already has the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC).

“However, we have the North Eastern Space Applications Centre and this is a big thing. Therefore, the question of demanding something is unending so we can always demand for many things out here but what is important is we should be able to utilize that particular department or that particular office in the best interest of the region and the state and the people,” Sangma told reporters.

“And right now, we strongly feel that NESAC’s presence has not been used optimally to the level that it should be (for the region and State’s interest),” he added.

The chief minister further stated, “So tomorrow if you are going to ask me, we want an ISRO centre, of course we want but then I would also want the presidential retreat out here; I have said it again and I would also want more airports coming up, I would also want more medical colleges coming up, so those wants are unlimited.”

“We have to see what is practical and how we can move forward, what helps the region in the best manner and move in a practical way which is really reasonable and practical – so all these aspects have to be looked into. It is a great suggestion and we will examine it,” he said.
