Shillong, June 2: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday inspected the COVID Ward at Tura Civil Hospital. Donned with a PPE kit, he inspected the facility for odd 20 minutes wherein he interacted with the patients and assured them all the support from the side of the government to assist them in their recoveries. At the same time, he realised the discomfort, heat and stress accompanying the PPE kit and the hard work the doctors and medical staff have to put in everyday while being in these kits.
My condition after wearing the PPE Kit at Tura Civil Hospital for a short while. Our #healthcare workers wear them for hours. For those still not taking #COVID19 seriously, this is the level of inconvenience our healthcare workers go through. Our safety will ensure theirs. pic.twitter.com/75PD5F7Spm

In a video statement after the inspection of the COVID ward and getting out of the PPE kit, Conrad shared “it is very difficult in the conditions the doctors and nurses have to work; I did it only for 20 minutes and they do it every day.”
To share his experience further and to convey the same to a large number of people he took to his Twitter handle where he wrote: “Wore a PPE Kit to inspect the Covid Ward at Tura Civil Hospital. Even for a short duration, it was uncomfortable to don the PPE kit. I cannot fathom the inconvenience that our #healthcare workers go through to care for our #Covid patients every single day.”

Appreciating the hard work of the health care workers during the COVID pandemic, he wrote: “Salute our #healthcare workers for treating patients with compassion, overlooking their own inconvenience, sometimes working in extreme weather & high-risk conditions. They deserve our utmost respect & appreciation. Thank them for all their hardwork & dedication.”

He also appealed to the citizens of state and the country to take care of themselves in order to reduce the pressure and risk to the doctors and medical staff. “We must realise that we need to take care of ourselves and if we don’t take care of ourselves, then there is more pressure and more risk to the doctors. Therefore, I once again request every citizen to follow all protocols and make sure you are safe. So that we can be a part of this fight against COVID and reduce the stress on doctors and medical fraternity.”
