Jowai, Sept 19: A convict serving life sentence in Jowai District Jail, who had tested positive for COVID-19, allegedly committed suicide at the Maternal and Child Hospital, Panaliar, Jowai.

The convict was found hanging at around 5:30 am on Sunday at the Hospital where he was brought to since Saturday night after complaining of breathing problems.

The convict has been identified as one M. Moila Magar, about 41 years old, was a resident of Nongjngi Village of West Jaiñtia Hills and was convicted of murder.

Following the incident, the police have observed all legal formalities and an inquiry into the matter is going on.
