Guwahati, May 15: Cotton University Students Union demanded immediate withdrawal of notice issued by the Cotton University authorities on the land lease to be provided for rent.
There is a widespread reaction across the state as the issue of renting out the premises of the historic Cotton University has come to light.

The union addressed a press conference and has strongly condemned the Cotton University officials, who have issued a notice regarding the land rent related issue of Cotton University.

The Cotton University Students Union has demanded from the Cotton University authorities that it should be withdrawn immediately.

As per sources, the university is facing a tremendous financial crunch, and is set to lease out varsity land to generate revenue and a panel has been set up to look for ‘space allocations within the university premises.

The decision to lease out the land within the varsity was taken on March 8, 2024, in the 34th Executive Council Meeting where a Standing Committee was constituted to look after space allocation in university premises to outside parties to generate revenue.
