Tura, Aug 19: An executive course aimed at empowering budding entrepreneurs in the fields of handloom, handicraft, bakery, and confectionery was inaugurated at the College of Community Science (CCS), CAU(I), Tura, on Monday.
The course, part of the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme, is being organized by the Department of Textile & Apparel Designing and the Department of Food Science & Nutrition at CCS, CAU(I), Tura, and is sponsored by the Department of Commerce & Industries, Government of Meghalaya.
The 15-day course, running from August 19 to September 2, offers participants valuable insights and training on the entrepreneurial aspects of the handicraft and food industries. The program aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to standardize their products and further develop their enterprises. The course will cover essential topics, including product pricing, label and branding, packaging and sales, bookkeeping and accounting, marketing, and the use of machinery and technology.
A total of 50 participants, both freshers and existing business owners from across the Garo Hills District, have registered for the course. Of these, 25 are enrolled in the textile course, and 25 in the bakery course. The sessions will be conducted by experienced lecturers from the College of Community Science.
The inaugural program was graced by Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor of CAU, Imphal; Dr. Jyoti V. Vastrad, Dean of CCS, CAU(I), Tura; and Don Felicient R. Marak, General Manager of DCIC, Tura.
During the event, the guests emphasized the benefits of the training program in capacity building, skill development, and institutional strengthening for entrepreneurs. They acknowledged the initiative’s significance in providing participants with the right tools and insights to enhance their businesses and diversify their product offerings.
