Covid-19 cases increase in Meghalaya, Govt says no to ‘lockdown’

Shillong, April 14: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday said that the Government is not contemplating to impose immediate ‘lockdown’ in the State, however, measures are being taken to reactive interventions to fight Covid-19.

“Cases are increasing on a daily basis. We are not going for any immediate lockdown. However, measures to curb the spread will be taken up aggressively,” Tynsong said.

He informed that Covid test at entry points in the State will continue and Deputy Commissioners and Block Development Officers across the State has been directed to reactivate the community led organisations to partner with the State government in its fight against Covid-19.

In the last three days, about 300 fresh cases were reported in the State.

He also informed that health dept is aggressively going ahead with vaccination drive.

Dy CM said that the rise in Covid 19 cases has increased in the State. He admitted that the trend is alarming and necessary measures are being taken for the safety of the people.

He said that for entry into Meghalaya, the Covid test is mandatory at the entry points.

He urged the people of the State to take necessary precautions.
