Must read

Tura, June 23: Another patient has fallen to the Covid-19 pandemic, this time in Williamnagar, and to stop this immense loss of lives, vaccinations have been scaled up in the state and Garo Hills with dozens of centres set up all over the region to get as many people as possible to take the jab and protect themselves from this deadly virus.

A 38-year-old man, an owner of a popular restaurant outside Williamnagar civil hospital, lost his battle to the novel corona virus late on Tuesday night. Undergoing treatment in the hospital, he developed complications and was being taken to Tura Covid care unit in Tura civil hospital when he died on the way.

The weeks of lockdowns and containment measures have been able to contain the spread of the disease but not the loss of lives, which is why every effort is being made to push through for large scale vaccination of the adult population, anyone and everyone in the age group of 18 and above.

Currently, the numbers are encouraging as many centres have been brimming with keen youngsters ready to get their first jab of the vaccine that will protect them.

Medical doctors in Williamnagar and Tura told Hub News that the presence of a new and mutated variant called the “Delta” variant is posing the biggest threat to human lives and the vaccination is the armour against it.

The new Delta variant has already spread in the state and Garo Hills region, as per scientific finding that was reported two weeks ago.

Places like East Garo Hills, despite continued lockdown, have seen a positivity rate of almost 11 percent (10.94%) hovering on for the last two weeks, as per details put up by the East Garo Hills district administration in its website. On Wednesday alone, 38 new cases were detected in the district and as figures continue to grow.

West Garo Hills also found 59 new cases on the same day and has been scaling up the vaccination drive.
