Agartala, Mar 20: Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, former MP and CPIM state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury has been appointed as the Leader of the Opposition Party in the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.
Speaker Biswabandhu Sen on Wednesday handed over the letter of appointment to Chowdhury.
Talking to reporters, Jitendra Chowdhury stated that, “I am also the opposition leader. But my main work is to support the government’s good work and see the proper implementation of the government schemes. If the government involved in some wrong doings, my work is to highlight the issue,”.
He said that Opposition Leader is part and parcel of the governance because the constitution along with the leader of the ruling party has also acknowledged the leader of the opposition party in the Parliament and House.
Chowdhury also appreciated the role of his predecessor Animesh Debbarma for his contribution in raising issues of public interest.
