Guwahati, Mar 21: Addressing a press conference on the arrest of the wanted ISIS, Assam’s IGP (STF), Partha Sarathi Mahanta, on Thursday said that they had received credible intelligence fifteen days prior which led to the arrest of top ISIS leaders.
Speaking at a press briefing in Guwahati, IGP Mahanta stated, “Fifteen days ago, we received credible intelligence from a central agency indicating potential movements of ISIS leaders in certain areas of the Dhubri Sector. This prompted the Special Task Force to act.” “We deployed our personnel to the suspected areas, and by the 18th, we were able to narrow down our focus. By the 19th, we obtained specific information about the likely movements,” he added.
He further added that Assam Police is working to track the sleeper cells in Assam.
The case has been handed over to NIA, as both Haris Farooqi alias Harish Ajmal Farukhi and his associate Rehan are wanted by the NIA.
