Tura, Aug 12: In a spirited and fervent celebration of 75 years of India’s Independence, the 120 Bn CRPF orchestrated the ‘Meri Maati.. Mera Desh’ campaign with utmost enthusiasm. The grand finale of this campaign took place at the unit headquarters in Dakopgre, Tura, echoing with patriotic fervour and a deep sense of homage to the land that has produced numerous valiant souls. This commemorative event was a poignant culmination of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

The solemn occasion commenced with a heartfelt tribute to the brave souls of Garo Hills who have exhibited indomitable courage and made supreme sacrifices for the nation. Floral offerings were paid to honour the memory of the CRPF martyrs from Garo Hills, including Shaheed Constable Utpal Rabha of 209 COBRA Commando and Shaheed Constable Sugandha Koch of 87 Bn CRPF. Families of these bravehearts, along with veer naris and retired CRPF personnel, were recognized and honoured by the chief guest and the gathered attendees.

The chief guest for the event was Pramod Kumar Singh, Commandant of the 120 Bn CRPF. In his address, he resounded the rich legacy of valour and sacrifice that the CRPF holds dear. The core values of ‘Service and Loyalty’ that the CRPF upholds were reiterated as the foundation of its indelible contribution to the nation.

Highlighting the importance of reviving the flame of patriotism among the youth, especially in the backdrop of a generation distant from the freedom struggle, the Commandant underscored the significance of imparting the profound history of India’s freedom movement.

Purushotam Joshi, the 2IC, welcomed the gathering with his opening address, setting the tone for the commemorative event.

A cultural extravaganza unfolded as the youth from Nehru Yuva Kendra, Tura, took the centre stage. Their performance included a speech on the legacy of bravery and sacrifice in the Garo hills, a resonating group song, and a poignant instrumental tribute to the CRPF martyrs. This cultural program showcased the unwavering spirit of patriotism and respect for the sacrifices made by these gallant soldiers.

The event also embraced the commitment to the environment through a meaningful plantation drive. This gesture not only paid homage to the bravery of the past but also symbolized a dedication to safeguarding the ecological balance for the generations to come.

To further enhance the camaraderie among the troops and the community, a traditional ‘bada khana’ (community feast) was hosted, epitomizing the ‘Espirit Des Corps’ cherished by the CRPF.
