Kokrajhar, Mar 18: A video from Assam’s Bodoland University surfaced of a cultural procession which mocked the Muslim students. The cultural procession has stirred controversy as it depicted two men dressed as Muslims with their hands tied, being portrayed as criminals, while another person, dressed as a policeman, was seen beating the two men.
Critics have raised their voice, saying that such portrayal stereotypes and unfairly labels wrongly depict and malign the Muslim community. Muslim student organizations also came forward to voice against the act of the university.
The incident has raised questions about the university’s commitment to equality, inclusivity, and fraternity. The procession was organized by the Department of History on the theme “Bodo Legendary Heroes” on varsity week.
It can be noted that, concerns have also been raised about the presence of such hatred in the university’s activities, contradicting its mission to foster a conducive environment for learning and mutual respect.
All eyes are now on the government of BTR & Vice-Chancellor of the University to address this issue promptly.
