Imphal, March 17: Authorities have enforced a curfew in Churachandpur district after clashes erupted between different tribal groups. The unrest began when a tribal leader was allegedly assaulted by unidentified miscreants on Sunday night, but tensions escalated on Monday as locals demanded the identification of the perpetrators, leading to clash between different tribal groups.
In response to the escalating situation, the Additional District Magistrate imposed prohibitory orders across the district under Section 163 of the BNSS 2023, which restricts the assembly of four or more individuals to prevent further disturbances and the spread of misinformation.

Police said protesters have been trying to enforce a shutdown, asking shops to close immediately. Groups of men carrying sticks were seen patrolling the streets, and there have been reports of stone-pelting in certain areas.
Security forces, including the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), have been deployed in the area to maintain order. However, the situation remains tense.
