Shillong, May 3: Meghalaya govt has announced that starting May 4, curfew will be clamped from 8 pm upto 5 am. The government has also taken a decision to close all the shops by 7 pm.
Addressing the media, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong informed that the decision of imposing curfew and closing of shops will be applicable for Shillong agglomeration only.
Tynsong said that in the review meeting, the government also discussed about disposing of dead bodies.
Tynsong informed that the government has taken a decision that dispose of dead bodies from now on will be allowed only upto 2 pm.
“Funeral should be done on or before 2 pm everyday. This order will come into force immediately. This will be for both Covid cases as well as non-covid cases. It will be applicable for the entire state of Meghalaya,” said Tynsong.
The Meghalaya government has instructed family members of the deceased should avoid opening the coffin. The families are to keep the coffin in an open space and not to take it inside the house.
Tynsong clarified that if a person passes away on Monday at 10 am the last rites should be done before 2 pm.
When asked if the state is witnessing space for burial or cremation, Tynsong said that so far there the state does not lack owing to the diversity in the state. “Meghalaya has people from different religions, so likewise the cremation is done according to the religious practices. So far we are not lacking in that area,” said Tynsong.
The state on Monday recorded 246 active reported with 6 deaths. The total active COVID-19 cases stands at 1,884.
