Tura, May 12: Mendipathar town in North Garo Hills was hit by a severe storm on Wednesday, leaving a trail of destruction in the area. The strong wind and heavy rain resulted in trees and power lines being downed, causing power outages that left thousands of residents without electricity.

According to reports, it may take up to 2-3 days for the power to be restored, as the strong wind has uprooted trees that have snapped electric transmission lines feeding the town.

No human casualties have been reported so far, but the destruction caused by the storm is visible in most parts of Mendipathar. The local administration has launched a massive cleanup operation to clear the debris and restore essential services.

Further detailed reports from other adjoining areas are still awaited, but it is feared that they may have also been affected by the severe storm.
