TURA, Feb 26: Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE) organisation president Dalseng Bira Ch Momin has given a statement denying he was involved in any political campaigning at night for BJP candidate Akki A Sangma or others and says he was falsely implicated by the villagers who detained him for several hours on Saturday night in a village in Dalu constituency of West Garo Hills.

It may be noted that videos of the incident have been going viral across social media platforms where the ADE president is detained with some money while others have been found to carry a sum of Rs 1.74 lakhs which the villagers alleged was to be used to buy votes for the BJP candidate.

“I was not part of the group that was detained with the money. I had Rs 32,000/- with me and was travelling separately when I was suddenly surrounded by angry villagers after I stopped for nature’s call outside the village last night. I was returning from a relative’s wedding in the area,” claims Dalseng Bira.

He further claimed that the group that was detained with a large amount of money came after he was taken into custody by the villagers.

“They are not part of my travelling entity but I was made to stand together with them and also roughed up by some of the villagers,” he said.

He alleged that he was targeted by the son of the NPP candidate and MLA of Dalu and has threatened to seek legal course of action against him and his supporters.

According to the ADE president, some in the crowd of angry supporters charged him with targeting previous GHADC CEM and Babelapara MDC Rakesh A Sangma who was made to step down by a conglomerate of organisations, last year, to protest his taking charge on grounds of his mixed parentage.

“I am not against the NPP, in fact, i even voted for Conrad K Sangma in the last election after he took over as chief minister. Of course, we have differences in social and political issues and We have been opposing the CAA and other issues as an organisation.”
