Shillong, May 26: Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, S C Sadhu has called for a meeting on May 27. Despite an FIR being filed against the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) taking cognizance of the Lum Survey demolition of slums on May 23.

According to the press release the meeting is to discuss issues related to the illegal settlement at the Cantonment Land adjacent to Bara Bazar and the Fire & Emergency Service Station.

The DC has invited The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills , the Chief Executive Officer, Shillong Cantonment Board, The Defence Estate Officer, Guwahati, The Secretary, Meghalaya Urban Development Authority, The Chief Executive Officer, Shillong Municipal Board as well as HYC.

On May 23 a case was registered at the Sadar police station against HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem, Vice President Donbok Kharlyngdoh, Assistant General Secretary Isaac Basaiawmoit and multiple unknown others in connection with the unlawful actions carried out by them in Lum Survey in the morning of 23/05/24, according to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Rituraj Ravi.
