P. A. Sangma Memorial Cricket Tournament concludes with grand celebration, TP Prince XI celebrates victory

Tura, May 26: The P. A. Sangma Memorial Cricket Tournament concluded with a grand celebration and an exciting finale match at Police Parade Ground, Tura on Saturday, as TP Prince XI and Marak Transport A cricket team battled it out on the pitch for the coveted champions title and trophy.

The celebratory event was graced by the Speaker, Thomas A Sangma as the chief guest, Subir Marak, MLA, Rangsakona; Rakesh Sangma, MDC, Babelapara and J. D. Sangma, Chairman, TMB along with other dignitaries and guests. The event also witnessed an exhibition cricket match between the guest dignitaries and the committee members.

The fifteen day long thrilling tournament had started on 11th May culminated on 25th May, seeing an impressive participation of 92 teams and 1104 players, resulting in a total of 90 exciting matches.

The championship trophy and the winning amount of 2 lakhs was awarded to the victor TP Prince XI, whereas the runner up, Marak Transport A, received an amount of 1 lakh rupees.

The TP Prince XI and Marak Transport A cricket team, after defeating the SWDCA cricket team and the Achura cricket team respectively in the semi finals, headed into the finals which was played of 12 overs.

In the finals, the Marak Transport A won the toss and had set a target to chase of 74 runs with a loss of 8 wickets in 11.1 overs, and with an outstanding skill the TP Prince XI were able to complete it within 7.3 overs, winning the match with a loss of just 4 wickets.

The championship trophy and the winning amount of 2 lakhs was awarded to the victor TP Prince XI, whereas the runner up, Marak Transport A, received an amount of 1 lakh rupees.

The Man of the Series and a hefty amount of 10,000 rupees went to Sajon Sah of Marak Transport A and Hiraj Rabha of TP Prince XI was named Man of the Match receiving a prize of 5000 rupees.

Speaking to Hub News, the Chairman of the P. A. Sangma Memorial Cricket Tournament committee, Dilip Chhetry, said, ‘such tournament should be organised not once but twice a year in Tura, so that our youths are occupied with playing games, physical activities, exercises and gym, rather than indulging in drugs and other wrong paths’. Additionally, rejoicing in the grand success of the tournament he extended heartfelt gratitude towards the District Administration and the Police Department for their support.

The winners were overwhelmed with the crowd support they received.
