Shillong’s Hotel Polo Towers to build Mizoram’s first four-star hotel

Must read

Shillong, July 8: Meghalaya-based Hotel Polo Towers Ltd. has secured a landmark project to develop Mizoram’s first four-star hotel, marking a major expansion of the Shillong-headquartered hospitality group’s footprint across the Northeast.

The company on Tuesday signed a concession agreement with the Government of Mizoram to redevelop the state-owned Chaltlang Tourist Lodge in Aizawl into a four-star or higher-category hotel under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The agreement was signed at the Chief Minister’s Office in Aizawl by Vanlaldina Fanai, Commissioner and Secretary, Tourism Department, Government of Mizoram, and Prashant Gupta, Chief Financial Officer and Whole-time Director of Hotel Polo Towers Ltd.

The project assumes significance as Mizoram is currently the only state in India without a four-star or higher-category hotel. The state government hopes the redevelopment will strengthen tourism infrastructure, attract investment and create employment.

Under the agreement, Hotel Polo Towers will design, build, finance, operate and maintain the hotel for an initial concession period of 30 years, with provisions for extension.

The hotel will initially have at least 60 rooms, with scope for expansion to 100 rooms. It will feature a 24-hour multi-cuisine coffee shop, specialty restaurant, lounge, gym and spa, while being built to standards that could eventually allow it to be upgraded into a five-star property.

The project is expected to begin after the site is handed over to the company within 45 days.

Headquartered in Shillong, Hotel Polo Towers is one of the Northeast’s largest hospitality groups, operating nine hotels with seven more projects under development, including PPP ventures in Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura and with Indian Railways.

The latest project further strengthens the Meghalaya company’s presence in the regional hospitality sector as Northeast states increasingly invest in high-end tourism infrastructure.
