Decision on Harijan Colony relocation soon: Dy CM

Shillong, April 14: The state government will soon take a call on the long pending issue for relocation of 342 families of Harijan colony from Them Iew Mawlong.

“We will take a call. Don’t worry,” Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar told reporters on Monday.

“We will be having a meeting very shortly… maybe in the next meeting, it (things) will be more clearer,” he added.

On April 8, the Meghalaya High Court had adjourned the hearing on the case related to the proposed relocation of 342 families of Harijan colony from Them Iew Mawlong till April 28, to enable the state government and the Harijan Panchayat Committee to explore possibility of settlement.

The state government had recently requested the government of India to atleast consider allotting 2.5 or 3 acres of unutilized defence land, which is located just opposite a petrol pump at Iew Mawlong.
