Guwahati, Feb 21: The All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) on Wednesday began its 100-hour hunger strike in Guwahati to press for their demands for a separate state.
The AKRSU demanded for creation of a Kamatapur State to preserve and develop their culture and heritage.
AKRSU General Secretary Hemanta Bora Koch said, “We urge the centre to consider our demand for a separate Kamatapur state and recognition to our tribe Koch Rajbongshi under ST plain”.
He said that the community has been fighting for their rights for the past 65 years now.
“Neither the Assam Government nor the Indian Government has paid attention to our demands. Hence, we have been compelled to protest to make our demands heard. If the Government does not respond to our demands, we will chalk our further agitation”, he added.
