Shillong, Dec 21: The state cabinet on Tuesday approved the proposal to change the nomenclature of the department of prisons to department of prisons and correctional services.

After the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said in line with the Government of India notification, other states have started the process and Meghalaya has also followed up on that.

“So, additionally, it will be called department of prison and correctional services,” he said.

The cabinet has also approved the appointment of Teilang S Pyngrope, who is the retired deputy secretary, as the secretary of the Meghalaya State Consumers’ Dispute Redressal.
