Tura, July 17: The District Football Association (DFA), Tura felicitated the Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS) U-15 football team on Tuesday at the Chandmari Football Turf, for their exceptional performance in the State Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2024, held in Shillong last week.

During the half time break of the First Division’s final match of the Tura Football League, the DFA took the opportunity to felicitate the young U-15 boys football team for achieving the Runner’s up trophy and representing the West Garo Hills District in the final of the state level tourney.

Notably, this is the very first time that a team from Garo Hills has reached the finals of the State Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament in the Under-15 category. The last time that a team from Garo Hills were in the finals of this state level tourney was 20 years ago but in the under-17 category.

The GBHSS football team got the opportunity to represent the West Garo Hills district in the state level after their victory in the District Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup football tourney held at Tura last month in the Under-15 category.

In the state level, the West Garo Hills team thrived throughout the tourney, defeating strong teams such as from South Garo Hills and South West Khasi Hills in the league stage and also defeating the East Khasi Hills team in the semifinals. In the final, the West Garo Hills team played against Ri Bhoi, where they were awarded the runner’s up trophy.

Along with the team, their coach, Adam A Sangma and their manager, Nancy A Sangma, were also felicitated by the DFA.
