SHILLONG, APR 10: National People’s Party (NPP) national general secretary and deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Wednesday asked the people of Nartiang constituency to reject the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) and the Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing an election campaign held at Namdong, Dhar said it would be meaningless to vote for the VPP because it is a party that will end only in Byrnihat.
“Not only that, the VPP does not have the capacity to shoulder responsibilities,” he said.
Dhar said that the Congress on the other hand is like a “vehicle that runs without wheels”.
“It (Congress) is also like a duplicate permit, which is being rejected everywhere,” he said. According to him, although the Congress MP Vincent H Pala is a good man, he has never done anything for the Nartiang constituency and its people.
Stating that the NPP is the only party with a valid permit, the deputy CM said, “Therefore, I urge all 24,000 voters (of the constituency) to support and vote for the NPP candidate for Shillong parliamentary seat on April 19.”
In his speech, former Congress leader Nehimaya Tyngkan, who recently joined the NPP, also appealed to all Congress supporters to support the NPP in this election.
“The NPP has contributed so much to the development of the state despite being only 6 years in the government,” he said.
Tyngkan also slammed VPP president Ardent M Basaiawmoit for playing dirty politics.
“I used to go along with Ardent for his clean politics campaign before but now he is totally into dirty politics,” he said while adding “That fact is that Ardent and his party will never be able to lead the state. If they can, I am ready to change my name.”
