Shillong, Sep 15: To strengthen their demands in seeking justice for former HNLC leader late Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, the ‘Sur’ or ‘the Voice’ of different regions and districts on Wednesday collaborated under one umbrella to form the ‘Sur ka Bri u Hynniewtrep’ to support the Sur ki Nong Mawlai.The sole reason in forming of this new organisation is to strengthen the agitation and demand of the Sur ki Nong Mawlai in the future for seeking justice for Thangkhiew, who was killed in an alleged fake encounter by a joint team of East Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills police in the wee hours of August 13 morning.Different Sur or Voice from Mawlai, Pynursla, Upper Shillong and from Jaintia Hills have come together to form the new organization.Mawlai Pudmuri Headman, Silvester Kurbah and HYC Mawlai Unit President, Donboklang Kharlyngdoh have been appointed as the Chairman and Vice Chairman, respectively while Marbud Dkhar has been appointed as General Secratary and Hamar Lyngkhoi as the Chief Organiser of the organisation.

The first demand of Ka Sur U Bri hynniewtrep is to suspend the police officers involved in the killing of Thangkhiew, who was also known as Bah Che.On creation of Ka Sur ka Bri u Hynniewtrep, its Chairman Silvester Kurbah clarified that it will not affect the Sur ki Nong Mawlai or any other Sur, but they will work together and Ka Sur ka Bri u Hynniewtrep will always support the agendas and issues of different Sur.

KSU Mawlai not part of Sur ka Bri u Hynniewtrep

Interestingly, in the middle of the gathering, the KSU Mawlai unit walked out in protest as it doesn’t want to be part of the new organization. However,  it will still be part and parcel of the Sur ki Nong Mawlai.Speaking to Hub News, Kurbah said the absence of KSU Mawlai Unit will not affect the functioning of ‘Ka Sur ka Bri u Hynniewtrep’.
