Tura, Oct 23: In a rare opportunity to witness the remarkable life of a woman whose deep spirituality transcended religious boundaries, the Diocese of Tura will host a special screening of the internationally acclaimed film “The Face of the Faceless”, which shows the life and legacy of Blessed Rani Maria, a Catholic nun from Kerala.
The film will be shown at Sacred Heart Parish Hall, Chandmari, Tura, from October 27 to October 30, with screenings scheduled from 1 PM to 5 PM daily.
Sister Rani Maria, a member of the Franciscan Clarist Congregation, was known for her tireless social work in Madhya Pradesh, where she worked to uplift underprivileged tribal communities and landless labourers through various developmental programs. Her advocacy for the poor made her a target of local landlords, leading to her tragic death in 1995 when she was brutally stabbed while traveling on a bus near Indore.
Despite the violence that claimed her life, Sister Rani Maria was posthumously beatified by the Catholic Church in 2017, an important step toward sainthood.
“The Face of the Faceless”, produced by Tri Light Creations, recounts the incredible true story of Sister Rani Maria’s inspiring journey of faith, courage, and service. The film, which runs for 2 hours and 16 minutes, is in Hindi with English subtitles and has earning over 75 international awards. It has also been shortlisted for Oscar eligibility at the 96th Academy Awards in 2024.
