The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) spokesperson Ginza Vualzong said during the press conference that “at seven in the morning, there was an attack from Meitei, who was dressed in militant outfits, on the Kuki-Zou village called Bellein, which is in the Tengnoupal district. What we heard is that after the attack, the villager ran away from their village to take shelter in the nearby army camp. And the last we heard was that there was one Assam rifleman who had been killed by the Mayday militants, and one Kuki volunteer was also killed along with him. The situation in Manipur is far from peaceful.”
“What we heard last was that there was a peace agreement between the citizens of the parallel between the Kuki and Meitei; they have signed an agreement where they will uphold the peace in the district; however, this morning this peace was broken by the gunfire from the Meitei site,” he added.
He further said, “It is unfortunate that this attack is happening at the same time that there is going to be a G-20 meeting in the capital of India, where many different delegates from different countries will be coming together. Most of the Manipur crisis is well known outside of India internationally; people are aware of the conflict that is going on here in Manipur, although the Indian government is trying to tell the world that the Manipur crisis is being handled and controlled and that there is no mercy in the region. But this morning’s attack shows that the state of Manipur is far from peaceful, and we would like to request that the Indian government as well as the international leaders discuss the Manipur conflict and try to resolve the Manipur issue as soon as possible.
