Discussions on Manipur in Parliament: My Office will send notices to some leaders, says RS Chairman

Delhi, July 31: Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday said that his office will be sending notices to some of the leaders of the House.

He said, “My Office will send notices to some of the leaders of the House. We meet at 2:45 pm to find a way out”

Earlier, Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2:30 pm, shortly after discussion begins on Manipur in the House.

Earlier, the Union Minister and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, Piyush Goyal, said on Monday that discussions on Manipur will be held in Parliament today at 2 p.m.

Vice-President and Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar interacted with the Leader of Opposition (Rajya Sabha) Mallikarjun Kharge in his chamber in Parliament on Monday.

 

Following the adjournment of House, Piyush Goyal, said that the opposition doesn’t want this discussion to take place. He said that there must be some reason why they (Opposition) are running away from a discussion.

Rajya Sabha adjourned till 14:30 hours

“They (Opposition) are trying to misuse the liberty given to the members. The govt is ready to discuss Manipur, but they (Opposition) have already spoilt 9 important days of the House,” he said.

However, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 p.m. amid sloganeering in the House over the Manipur situation.

Meanwhile, TMC MP Derek O’Brien said that they want a detailed discussion on the Manipur issue.

He also said that their delegations have gone to Manipur.

Calling Manipur situation a very serious issue, he asked on why can’t the Prime Minister come? We are all ready to discuss Manipur”.

Violence in Manipur

The violence in Manipur since May 3 has been a cause for concern among residents and authorities alike. The clashes between different ethnic groups and the security forces have resulted in several casualties and widespread destruction. Efforts are being made to restore peace and stability in the region.
