Guwahati, Sept 02: At a time when the opposition parties are trying to give shape to their INDIA Alliance, in a significant statement, ruling BJP’s political idealogue the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has asked the people not to use the word “India” and instead use “Bharat”.

Addressing a public event in Guwahati on Friday evening, Bhagwat said, “We all must stop using the word India and start using Bharat. At times we use the word while conversing with those who speak English, so under the influence of language we use India because we want them to understand; however, we must stop doing this. Special names do not change; it doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world.”

Bhagwat had arrived for a three-day visit to Guwahati on Friday.

He said the name of the country throughout the ages has been Bharat, hence, it should remain Bharat irrespective of where the name is used or referred. Urging them to use the word ‘Bharat’ to refer to the country, he said, “If someone does not understand there is nothing to worry about. It is that person who needs to understand and we do not need to make him understand. We are self-reliant and independent.”

Further emphasizing on the global importance of the country, he remarked that today the world needs India more than India needs the world. “Today the world needs us; we can run without the (support of) world but the world cannot run without us,” he said.

A two-day camp will be held in the RSS regions of Uttar Asom Pranta and Dakshin Asom Pranta on September 2 and 3, respectively, which will be attended by Mogan Bhagwat. On September 4, he will leave for Nagpur.
