Guwahati, Feb 23: A dreaded drug mafia was injured in police firing in Assam’s Lumding on Thursday while he attempted to attack the police who went to nab him.
The drug mafia has been identified as Abdul Ali alias Abdul Hussain.
According to information, a bullet hit the knee of Abdul Ali’s left leg. He was admitted to Lumding Civil Hospital in critical condition.
A policeman was also injured in the attack by the drug mafia.
“After getting tip off information, we launched an operation to nab Abdul Ali but he tried to attack us in retaliation, our police team fired on his leg which badly injured him,” said a police official.
Last month, drugs worth around Rs 100 crore were recovered from Karimganj district of Assam and four peddlers were arrested.
The contraband was recovered during a joint operation of the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police and Karimganj district police.
