Agartala, May 10: In a significant operation aimed to combat drug trafficking, police in Agartala, apprehended five drug traffickers along with a cache of brown sugar.

The operation, was conducted based on specific intelligence inputs regarding illicit activities, resulted in the arrest of the suspects and the seizure of a substantial quantity of narcotics.

Inspector Sanjit Sen, officer in-charge of the East Agartala police station said, acting on precise information regarding the sale of contraband substances, a coordinated effort was launched. A joint team, comprising of officers from the College Tilla outpost and officials from the East PS, carried out a raid in the Shibnagar-Modern club lake area.

During the raid, three individuals were detained, the area was searched and a scotty associated with the detainees was uncovered with a pouch and hundreds of vials suspected to contain brown sugar.

The seizure marked a crucial breakthrough in the operation, indicating the presence of a significant drug trafficking network operating in the region.

Further interrogation of the detained individuals revealed vital information regarding additional accomplices involved in the illicit trade.

Acting on the information police extended their operation to the Kalyani area, where two more suspects were apprehended.

With the arrests of these individuals, authorities managed to dismantle a portion of the drug trafficking network operating within the city.

In total, the raid yielded approximately 150 vials of suspected brown sugar, along with a pouch containing the illicit substance, collectively weighing 16 grams.

The recovery underscores the magnitude of the narcotics trade in the region and the proactive measures undertaken by law enforcement to combat it.

The apprehended individuals were promptly arrested and charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Following their arrest, they were presented before the local court, where authorities sought a five-day police remand to facilitate further investigation to find the drug trafficking syndicate and identify its key orchestrators.
