Drug peddlers nabbed in South Salmara Mankachar, huge consignment of contraband seized

Guwahati, Feb 8: In a massive anti-narcotics operation, South Salmara Mankachar police seized a huge amount of narcotics items were seized in multiple operations and seven drug peddlers were arrested from various areas of South Salmara Mankachar district on Friday.

After getting tip off regarding drugs smuggling at Dhenarkuti under South Salmara Mankachar police station, a team of police conducted a raid and seized narcotic items and apprehended two drug peddlers.

The drug peddlers have been identified as- Soleman SK (23) and Minal Hussain (26).

The seized items include 57 grams of suspected heroin found in two soap box, two mobile phones and seven numbers of Debit cards, HDFC bank Cheque Book and Axis Bank cheque book.

In another operation at Jordanga under Mankachar police station on Friday night, huge amount of contraband items seized. Two drug peddlers were arrested identified as Fozu Miah(22) and Abdul Ayub (34).

The drug peddlers were arrested under NDPS Act.

“We have seized 297 bottles of Phensydyl codeine cough syrup and 2.055 kg ganja from a launch boat transporting from Dhubri to South Salmara,” said an police official.

Similarly, in another operation at Pubergaon part-2, a special police team from Hatsingimari and Mankachar police arrested three drug peddlers and seized 11 grams of suspected heroin from their possession.

The peddlers identified as Siraj ud Duba alias Chuto Baba, Rizwan ul Islam and Hasinur Islam.

The Additional superintendent of police (HQ) was also present for supervision of the case. Preliminary enquiry indicates the consignment was sourced from Cooch Behar, West Bengal.

Further interrogation is underway to trace the supply network. Seizure items were videographed and FIR was registered for legal formalities.
