Nongpoh, Feb 28: The Ri-Bhoi police arrested a man in possession of approximately 36.03 grams of suspected heroin on Thursday.
In a police communication, it was reported that the operation, conducted by the Ri-Bhoi District Executive Force (DEF) based on credible source information.
The accused, identified as Rajat Paul (29), son of Rabindra Paul, is a resident of Bhawraguri in Chirang district, Assam. He was reportedly traveling from Guwahati to Shillong in a tourist taxi when police intercepted him and recovered the suspected contraband.

According to authorities, the seized heroin has an estimated market value of ₹10 lakh. A case has been registered at Nongpoh Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act (Section 21(b)/27A/29).
Police have taken the accused into custody and launched an investigation to trace possible forward and backward links in the drug network.
