Drugs worth ₹3 crores seized in Assam, One arrested

Guwahati, Apr 3: In a major crackdown, Assam police on Wednesday nabbed a drug peddler in Assam’s Nagaon district and seized at least half a kilogram of suspected heroin from his possession.

According to police, the heroin was concealed in 46 soap boxes and is worth more than Rs 3 crore.

“The accused was nabbed from a bus. We have started investigation to trace the origin and destination of the suspected drugs,” said a police official.

He added, “We have a tip off information regarding the drugs. Someone carrying the drugs in a bus. We have launched an operation and successfully nabbed the drug peddler. The seized drugs has been sent for laboratory testing,”.

Recently, the police seized narcotics worth around Rs 80 lakh and apprehended two drug peddlers in Assam’s Nagaon district.

The apprehended person were identified as Anarul Islam and Moinuddin Ahmed.

For the smooth conduct of the Lok Sabha polls, Assam police have started a massive crackdown against the narcotic items and so far seized a huge contraband items.
