Aizawl, Jan 13: In a major drug haul, security forces have seized drugs worth Rs 8.19 crores from Mizoram and Assam in multiple operations on Saturday along with fake currencies.
In the first operation, the Assam Rifles jawans accompanied by custom officials recovered 628 grams of Heroin worth Rs 4.39 crore from Zokhawthar and 95 cases of foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs 1.23 crore from Champhai-Aizawl road in Champhai district.
Three drug peddlers including a woman were also arrested during the operations.
In another operation, the para-military force seized 22,000 highly addictive Methamphetamine tablets (also called Yaba tablets) worth Rs 3.8 crore and fake Indian currencies of Rs 10,500 and apprehended two drug peddlers from southern Assam’s Patharkandi under Karimganj district on Saturday.
According to officials, these drugs and the fake Indian currencies were smuggled from Myanmar.
