Guwahati, Mar 15: Assam police seized illicit drugs worth Rs 110 crore in Assam’s Cachar district and arrested one person on Thursday.
After getting tip off information, a team of police launched an operation leading to the recovery of over 12 kilograms of heroin and brown sugar.
According to police, the illicit drugs were concealed in leather bags and soap cases, were suspected to have been transported from a neighbouring state with the intention of distribution and sake with the region.
“We have arrested one individual in connection with the seizure. It was one of the major breakthrough for our department in dismantling the drug trafficking network in recent times,” said a police official.
The seizure highlights the sophisticated methods employed by drug traffickers to evade detection and underscores the magnitude of the challenge faced by law enforcement agencies in combating the menace of narcotics.
The Assam police have intensified operation against drugs and so far huge quantity of drugs were seized from the different areas of state.
