Cachar, Mar 23: In a significant crackdown on narcotics, Assam’s Cachar district witnessed the seizure of brown sugar valued approximately Rs 30.50 lakh on Friday.

Superintendent of Police, Numal Mahatta disclosed that a targeted operation, based on specific inputs led to the arrest of one Babul Ali (40) and his wife Husnara Begum (34) at Kachudaram Bazar Tiniali.

Five soap cases containing a total of 61.79 grams of brown sugar were recovered during the operation.

In a separate incident, authorities seized 15 kg of cannabis in another operation based on a tip-off, police swiftly arrested Ngaibonj Kuki, a woman from Jiribam, Manipur, at Phulertal Ghaat in Lakhipur.
