East Khasi Hills DC warns against ‘deliberate’ burning of forests

Shillong, March 20: The district administration of East Khasi Hills on Thursday prohibited deliberate burning of fires and unattended burning of forests that have the potential to cause wild/forest fires and damages to environment, property and loss of lives.

The order issued by the district magistrate RM Kurbah also warned that any violation to this order shall be prosecuted under Section 233 of the BNS.

This was after it has been brought to the notice of the district administration that there is deliberate burning of forest in and around the district and that there are rampant unattended burning of forest which leads to wildfires/forest fires.

Therefore, the order is necessary to ensure safety to the general public, and also to ensure protection of the environment from degradation and to prevent further damage to our precious forest ecosystem; as well as threat to safety and loss of human lives.
