Shillong, July 10: East Khasi Hills district administration on Monday issued an order prohibiting opening of shops, food stalls, restaurants and enterprises in and around Shillong city after 10 pm.
The order issued by the district magistrate RM Kurbah also prohibits consumption of intoxicants and engaging in any unlawful activities in the vehicle and blasting of music near educational, religious institutions, hospitals besides residential areas after 10 pm.
It also warned any violation of the said order will attract penal provisions under Section 188 of the IPC.
The order said there have been various incidents of violence that took place in and around Shillong city which had led to many law and order situations particularly during the night and whereas such incidents may cause disturbance, pose a threat to the daily commuters and endangering the lives of the public at large. It said that preventive measures need to be taken to ensure the safety and security of the public and to maintain peace and tranquillity within the city.
At least five persons have been arrested last week, for their involvement in a scuffle that led to the attack and torching of three vehicles at the Laitumkhrah police station.
