Shillong, June 26: Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Tuesday informed that the department has submitted a proposal to the finance department for considering hiking the salary of over 1200 SSA non-teaching staff.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said that the delegation of the All Meghalaya SSA Non-Teaching Staff Association (AMSSANTSA) had met him to discuss the matter.
“In fact, the department has already proposed and the file is with the finance department and the process is on and we are waiting for things to be completed. The Chief Minister is aware of this development and we will do the needful. We are expecting the finance department to take necessary decisions on this,” he said.
Asked, Sangma said, “The finance department will take a final call based on the financial strength of the state.”
Stating that the demand of the association is genuine, the minister said, “We have requested them (delegation) that agitation and protest is not the solution.”
He informed that the delegation has assured that they will not go ahead with their proposed agitation since the government is already taking up this matter.
According to him, the last enhancement was done way back in 2016.
