Shillong, May 21: East Khasi Hills district on Thursday organised Samridhi Ki Pathshala, a focused awareness and field-training programme under the Government of India’s Modernisation of Command Area Development and Water Management (M-CADWM) Scheme of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, at Lyngkhoi village under Sohiong Community and Rural Development Block.

The initiative aims to educate farmers and Water User Societies (WUS) on improving agricultural water infrastructure and adopting modern irrigation practices to enhance water efficiency and agricultural productivity.
The programme brought together agricultural experts, engineers and local farmers to discuss the importance of upgrading irrigation systems and strengthening water management practices for sustainable farming.

As part of the initiative, the Government of India has sanctioned Rs 3,37,40,325 under the M-CADWM Scheme for the Lyngkhoi Flow Irrigation Project Cluster to strengthen irrigation infrastructure in the area.

The event was attended by local MLA Synshar K. R. Lyngdoh, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner R. M. Kurbah, State Nodal Officer L. Sooting, Additional Deputy Commissioner and District Nodal Officer Shanborlang Warjri, Executive Engineer (WRD) and Member Secretary, DLIC, M. L. Lawai, Deputy Director, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, Shubham Pachauri, officials from the Central Water Commission (CWC), Mahana Ventures, the Block Development Office, Water User Societies and local farmers.
Officials said the programme witnessed active participation from stakeholders and reflected strong community commitment towards strengthening agricultural water management systems and improving irrigation facilities in the district.
