Shillong, July 17: The East Khasi Hills Police initiated vice raids and vigorous patrolling within the areas of Shillong City as proactive measures to ensure the safety of the public and prevent untoward incidents.
The vice raids were carried out at several locations with the assistance of Meghashakti (Women Police Commandos). The operation was carried out in areas including Mawblei,  Laitumkhrah Bazar, Nongrim Hills, Jhalupara, Mawlonghat,Mawbah, Motphran, Paltan Bazar, Urkaliar, Upper Shillong, Polo, and Upper Mawprem.
During the operations, a significant amount of contraband was seized, consisting of 1,12,097 ml of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and 7,74,000 ml of illicit liquor over the weekend.
Also, foot patrolling was intensified in and around Khyndailad to take action on sex workers, whose acts of soliciting customers are not only illegal but often the cause of many law and order problems. In this connection, a case under Shillong Sadar PS Case No. 177(07)2023 U/S 7(1)(b) Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act has also been registered against them, where 15 sex workers were apprehended and legal action taken.
The Shillong Traffic Police are also conducting day and night vehicle checks at various locations for offences of drunken driving, riding without a helmet, modified silencers, tinted glasses, and other MV Act offences. In the preceding week, 277 vehicles have been compounded, and Rs. 236500/- (Rupees Two Lakh Thirty Six Thousand, Five Hundred) has been realised in fines from violators.
