Elderly, disabled voters exercise their right to vote through ‘Vote from Home’

Tura, April 8: With the vote from home facility provided for Senior Citizens who are above 85 years and persons with 40% disability as per ECI instructions all Districts have set their own timeline for voting. West Garo Hills is set for 8th and 9th of April to facilitate people of these categories. A total of 362 voters in the district have applied for home voting through their concerned block level officers (BLOs).

Applications were sought from all eligible voters through a press release signed by the District Commissioner. The voting was conducted in ten districts on Monday, including North Tura, South Tura and Selsella no application was received from Raksamgre. East Garo Hills district also conducted the vote from home exercise.

This is for the first time in the history of the Lok Sabha elections ECI has extended its ‘vote-from-home’ facility to Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and senior citizens aged 85 and above to make the process inclusive and accessible.

A total of 6,106 electors have been registered for home voting across the state, with 3,424 such voters in 36 assembly segments of Shillong Lok Sabha seat, and the remaining 2,682 in 14 assembly segments under Tura Lok Sabha constituency.
