Both the victims were brought to Tura and the woman has been admitted to the Tura Maternity hospital while the child has been placed in the eye ward due to the nature of her injuries.

According to sources the forest officials had requested them to not venture as it was time of crossing, but without listening they went and when they encountered the elephants they left their vehicles and started to run.

Elephants frequently cross over from Bangladesh where they are chased by crowds using fire crackers and at times weapons such as spears, bows and arrows.

The beasts, already in a state of panic, attack anyone they come across their path.
