Dibrugarh, Jan 7: A deadly fire broke out at the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Gas Gathering Station in Borholla, Jorhat district, on Tuesday afternoon, claiming the life of an engineer and leaving several others injured.
Rahul Datta, an engineer, succumbed to severe burn injuries following a powerful explosion at the facility.
Jorhat Superintendent of Police, Shwetank Mishra, confirmed the tragic incident, stating, “The victim was rushed to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the doctors.”
The fire erupted during routine operations when a blast caused a rapid fire that quickly engulfed the Gas Gathering Station. Multiple fire tenders were dispatched to the site and are still working to control the blaze.
While the number of injured workers has not been officially confirmed, officials reported that several personnel sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the hospital. The full extent of the injuries remains under investigation.
