Tura, Aug 24: For the first time in more than two decades, a grave containing the mortal remains of a man were opened up and the body exhumed for an inquest and subsequent post mortem by medical experts at a cemetery in Tura on Tuesday.
On the basis of a Court order given by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of West Garo Hills, M K Lyngdoh, authorities in Tura unsealed the grave and exhumed the body of MeECL Engineer, Late Bob Marley N. Sangma, to ascertain the actual causes of his death.
The late engineer was found hanging inside his house in Tura in a suspected case of suicide, over a month ago, and the previous inquest and post mortem conducted by a doctor had indicated the same.
The exhumation was undertaken at the Hawakhana Baptist Church Cemetery in Tura, in the presence of a Magistrate and teams from the Tura Municipal Board while family members stood nearby.
The Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate gave the permission for a fresh inquest and post mortem after the late engineer’s sister, Tangre Marchina N. Sangma, gave a written FIR expressing dissatisfaction with the content and findings of the first autopsy and alleged foul play.
She alleged that marks on her late brother’s neck suggested homicide and expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation while filing her police FIR.
The investigation officer of the case, S K Marak, sought the Court permission for the exhumation which allowed for the same on August 24.
