Tura, Jan 11: The A’chik A’song Environment Enthusiast Society (AAEES), in collaboration with Me·gong Baldak Bazar Committee and Tura Town Church Youth, organized a cleaning drive at the PA Sangma Stadium’s outer premises in Dakopgre on Saturday morning.
Over 20 volunteers, including youth and elderly citizens, participated in the initiative aimed at cleaning the front portion of the stadium. Speaking to Hub News, AAEES Organizing Secretary John H.D. Sangma said, “The place was littered with garbage, mostly bottles, wrappers, chips packets, etc., because this location had Christmas lighting, and people from all over Garo Hills came to visit. We took the initiative to ensure the area looks neat and clean.”
Sangma also urged citizens, particularly the youth, to avoid littering. “It is our own town; we should keep it clean,” he emphasised.
Despite limited manpower, AAEES has consistently organized cleaning drives in the region, often in collaboration with other local groups.
